ABOUT ME

Painting is my life.

I was fortunate to be born into a family of Artists in New York City. They encouraged my inherent enthusiasm for all mediums of Art. I was also surrounded by the Theater, to the extant that I became a working Actor in all media by the age of Six. These experiences possibly planted the seed that grows within me still, the expression of character and story telling through imagery, a stark contrast to the New York School of Abstract Expressionism that permeated my childhood. Realism began as an act of defiance for me, a break with the past.
My teachers include Knox Martin, Frank O’Cain, Gregg Kreutz and Sharon Sprung, to date.

When I am commissioned to paint portraits, I paint characters who come to life before me. There is drama, beauty, pathos and mischief, there is serenity and chaos. As I paint, the curtain rises, the Sitter is center stage and the story unfolds silently before me. I allow the rich history that I perceive before me to take command of the process, as I engage the Sitter and develop a symbiosis. Maddening though it may be, every painting leaves me with an unfinished novel in my head.
My body of work includes drawings on paper, oil on canvas, oil on wood panel, acrylic air brushed murals executed in a Tromp-L’ŒIL effect.
My work hangs in private collections in the U.S., Toronto, London, Barcelona, and Vienna.
